How To Start Your Own Coaching Business

OK, so you are interested in becoming a coach and helping others to succeed; that’s great but how do you go about getting started in the first place?

Before you start, let’s take a quick look at the pro’s and cons of running your own coaching business so you can decide whether this is an avenue you really want to pursue.

The pro’s of coaching

This could be quite a lengthy list as coaching is a business that anyone can embark upon, but here are five of the top benefits to becoming a coach:

  • Anyone with people skills and the ability to help can become a coach. As long as you are an expert at something you can coach someone to become an expert too. Although it’s recommended you take some courses and get certified, the coaching profession isn’t highly regulated yet, which means anyone can call themselves a coach (perhaps this could be called a con too)!
  • You can start small so it is actually quite affordable to get your coaching business off the ground. Odds are you already have the equipment needed to start; a computer. You can download Skype for free and buy a quality set of headphones for under $50. You should also have a website, coaching contract and perhaps homework materials, but again, those can all be had for less than $100.
  • You can feel good about helping people in the area you coach in. There is nothing better than helping someone who is stuck in an area of their life or business and seeing them progress forward.
  • You can do individual and/or group coaching. Especially for people who can’t afford one-on-one time with you, group coaching allows them a way to work with you and you to be able to help more people in less time. And if you are a business coach, as they see the benefits and results in higher profits, they will probably be able to invest more into coaching and pay to access you on an individual basis.
  • You can offer add-on products or services to further assist your clients. Many coaches have books and home study products and this offshoot can generate an extremely lucrative business in itself and you can reach far more people who, once again, may seek out more access to you as they progress and see results.

The cons of coaching

  • As stated in the pro’s list above, although certification is not currently required, getting certified can certainly increase your credibility and marketability. But, of course, getting a coaching certification takes time and money and this needs to be taken into consideration.
  • You do need to have great people skills and patience. Just because people come to you for help, doesn’t mean they’ll do what you suggest, even if it is in their own best interests. In fact, many people are fearful and resistant to change, so you need to be able to support, encourage and sometimes challenge your clients to make needed changes to have the breakthrough they desire.
  • You’ll spend a lot of time on the phone or video conferencing. If you don’t mind having many appointments a day, that won’t be a problem (this is where having an information business on the side will alleviate this issue).
  • You need to be in top form whenever you’re with clients. You might feel bad/sick, have a personal issue or other difficulties in your life, but when you’re with a client, you need to be “on” no matter what and laser focused on them 100%. Remember that as a coach you will ultimately be judged on the results you get for your clients.
  • It can take a while to build a solid, stable business. Getting your first clients can be tricky, but you can offer discounted or even free sessions to get them in through the door to show them the value you offer and to hook them. But this does take time and perseverance, although this can be argued the same for any business!

Now, before you even think about starting up a coaching business you need a thorough understanding and acceptance of who you are. Don’t forget that the most valuable resource you have in your business is you. It’s the one thing your business cannot do without. Take time to really understand what makes you tick, how you ended up where you are and who you want to be for the rest of your life. Yes, your business will provide an income (hopefully), but it’s also an opportunity for fun and fulfilment.

All great creations start with a dream. You have permission to dream about what you want, where you want to go, who you want to work with. Make this dream as real as possible, use all your senses. Yes, create a vision board and mind map. Test drive that dream car. Record your dream in a way that you can revisit it as often as you need for inspiration. Then check how comfortably your business fits in to your dream. And this is important, if it does not fit, then you need adjust your business, not your dream.

Still here, good! Now let’s take a look at a few personal qualities that you will need to succeed as a coach:

You Are Happy To Invest In Yourself

To succeed as a coach, you must not be afraid to invest in yourself consistently. Take a look around and you will see that this is a trait shared by the best coaches. Think about it; if you aren’t willing to invest in yourself, why should a client invest in you? You can’t help others see their blind spots if you can’t see your own. The best coaches are constantly getting support from other coaches.

You Need To Have (Or Develop) A Business Mindset

Too many coaches only want to coach. That motivation and passion is critical, but as a coach, you’re also a solopreneur. For better or worse, the stamina you have for coaching has to transfer over into maintaining the bottom line, and no matter what, running a business is serious work. This means personal branding, social media strategy, writing articles, speaking to audiences – and that isn’t even delving into the financial management and bookkeeping elements of running a business. It’s not about whether you can do it, it’s about whether you can enjoy it enough to do it. The major reason that many coaches fail is not because they can’t coach enough clients, but rather because they lack a strategic business plan. Seeing clients is a small slice of it… a good coach gets and enjoys all aspects of the business, especially the marketing.

You Are A Good Listener

Studies show that listening skills can actually boost economic success, yet coaches often fail to apply this in their own practice. The worst coaches are focused only on feeding you information whereas a great coach has the skills to facilitate a shift in your mindset and perspective, which is only possible by really listening to you and understanding you at a deep level. Once that inner shift occurs, it is reflected back with massive powerful results which will ultimately benefit both coach and client.

Ok, so you have got this far and you are definitely invested into becoming a coach. Here are 7 quick steps you can use to get going.

Step 1: What Type Of Coach?

You are probably aware that life and business coaching are extremely popular, but they aren’t the only types of coaching you can do. If you are in the fitness niche you can become a weight loss, fitness or health coach. What about a sports coach? You can also become a parenting or relationship coach, organizational or productivity coach, technical coach, sales coach or a career coach. Where is your area of expertise and work from there?

Step 2: Set up Your Business/Company

Decide your business structure, create a business name and get a business license if required. Write a coaching contract that outlines your services and expectations.

Step 3: Invest In Your Coaching Equipment

If you’re going to be doing video conferencing, download the needed software and purchase a quality headset and webcam. Some coaches record calls and give them to their clients so they can review the session. If you want to do that, you’ll need to get a recorder that will record your video/audio calls. You can use Skype which is free to hold these types of calls. If you want to run group sessions, you could run weekly webinars etc. so you will need to invest in webinar software. Whatever you do, it is important that people can hear you clearly so invest in a quality microphone such as the Blue Yeti.

Step 4: Build Your Website

Potential clients need a place to learn about your coaching business and there’s no better place to sell your coaching and related materials than on a website.

You will need to purchase hosting and a domain name (preferably the name of your coaching company). Using WordPress, you can quickly get a website live online and customise the look and feel through various plugins and themes. If you aren’t very techy, you can outsource this to freelance sites such as Fiverr.com or Upwork.com and get someone to install and set this up for you (remember that this is an investment in your business and not a cost).

Write content that is client-focused on how you can help them improve their lives. Once you have testimonials, post them on your website as social proof is very powerful.

Step 5: Develop A Marketing Strategy

Do thorough market research to figure out your ideal client and where you can find them and then develop specific marketing strategies to lure them to your business. For example, if you’re a business oriented coach, you should develop a LinkedIn profile. If you’re a personal training coach, you might want to have videos on YouTube that offer fitness tips or teach specific exercises etc. Really delve into your market and understand what makes them tick, their hopes and fears, and determine how you can position yourself as the answer to those hopes and fears.

Step 6: Keep On Marketing!

In all honesty getting your first client will likely be the hardest. Use your personal and professional network to help. Like I have already stated in this article, consider offering a heavily discounted, or even better, a free 15 or 30-minute coaching session to entice people to try you out. Deliver as much value as you possibly can during these sessions as your business could depend on it. Just because they are free, doesn’t mean you should hold back. Help them as much as you can, and once they see the benefit and that you are genuinely interested in helping them, hopefully the decision to invest in you becomes a no-brainer.

Step 7: Be The Best Coach That You Can!

This may seem to be obvious but it needs to be stated. Coaching isn’t a business to take lightly. People are entrusting their emotional and possibility their physical well-being to you. You also owe it to them to stay on top of current trends in your industry, as well as best practices for coaches.

Remember that ultimately you will be judged on the results you achieve for your clients, so give them 100% and as they see the results, you will probably get referrals and your coaching business will soar. You could become the go-to coach in your niche with all the recognition and kudos that brings, and you know that you are affecting many people’s lives for the better and there is no greater feeling that that!

I hope this post has given you some insight into the benefits that starting your own coaching business can give to you. If you want to learn more about starting your own coaching business, I have also recorded some video training that you can see here: warr.us/atgmen1

5 Ways To Boost Inner Strength

There’s hardly a person alive who would tell you that life is anything but busy – and sometimes tough. You can be pulled in so many directions at once it can be easy to get stretched thin.

No matter how old you are, you’ll encounter trying situations at home, at work, among your friends and family and even with strangers. Everything you go through taps into your inner strength and can drain it little by little.

You can’t do anything about what you experience simply because it’s part of life. But what you can do is to find ways to boost your inner strength so that you have the calm that you need to deal with whatever comes your way.

There are several tools that you can use to help boost your ability from an internal mindset perspective – so that regardless of what you face, you can have a life of calm.

Exercise to Gain Inner Strength

One of the easiest tools that you have at your disposal to use when you need to boost your mental strength is physical exercise. Exercise does so much more than give your muscles strength and help keep your weight under control.

Exercise is necessary to strengthen you emotionally – and one of the reasons for this is because it can calm stress. It’s a well known fact that stress is one of the leading causes for turmoil, loss of peace and mentally draining.

When you experience a loss of inner strength, you’ll feel tired, mentally sluggish and unable to concentrate. What’s going on is that the things you’re dealing with in life (even if they’re not necessarily horrible things) are chipping away at your inner strength.

What you go through in life will hit you internally long before it hits you outwardly. In other words, you’ll feel the stress first. You’ll fee anxious and restless and then you’ll exhibit physical symptoms like insomnia, headaches, stomachaches and more.

What exercise does is cause you to produce a greater supply of endorphins. Not only do these chemicals take care of stress, but they work to boost your supply of inner strength.

You’ll feel calmer and ready to handle whatever it is that you need to take care of. There are some exercises that are better for boosting your inner strength than others.

When you exercise vigorously – such as with aerobic exercise – you’ll find that you have more inner strength. This is because the faster paced exercise works to raise the endorphin levels, but at the same time, it drives down the stress level, gives you more confidence and a more positive attitude.

When you take part in a regular exercise routine, you’ll find that your store of inner strength increases and has a beneficial boost to your mental abilities. The key to using exercise to boost your inner strength is making sure that you find something that you enjoy doing.

If you don’t, you’ll only feel the added stress of doing something that you don’t want to do and you’ll be dealing with the negative emotions associated with that, instead of healing.

How Mantras Boost Your Inner Strength

If you’re not sure what a mantra is, it’s a sound or a word that’s used to help people focus when they’re meditating. There are many reasons that you want to use mantras.

They can help you deflect the thoughts and attitudes that can drain your inner strength. When you practice a mantra, you’ll notice that you have a more positive outlook toward whatever it is that you’re dealing with.

You’ll also discover that learning a mantra can set you free from stress and anxiety. The words that you use in a mantra or the sounds that you’ll use can vary depending on what you choose to do.

There can be particular mantras, too – based on what you’re searching for. Some people will use a basic Om sound as their mantra while others will use specific mantras that translate into requests for healing or blessings or other things that they want to focus on.

Mantras are a way of tapping into your inner strength and finding the balance that you need to restore the draining energy. When you have a mantra, you can use it to help you focus during the times that you feel uncertain or nervous.

You can use it to calm your fears and to help you find your center so that you remain in control. Studies have shown that people who use mantras to help boost their inner strength are often more successful in all areas of their lives than people who don’t.

You’ll experience clarity and a mental focus that others won’t have. Not only will you be able to boost your inner strength on a regular basis, but during a time of crisis when you really need your mental alertness.

Mantras help you be aware of what’s going on around you as well as within you. They can guide you to help lift you above the situation and to keep your perspective.

This will help you to see situations as solvable and as a moment in time rather than as something that can’t be overcome. When you practice with a mantra, it will teach you to be more confident in your abilities and can raise your self-esteem.

You’ll be able to find the positives even in the negative situations you might have to deal with. By using a mantra, you’ll be able to have a way to relax at any moment throughout the day.

This can help bring your emotions back into focus. People who practice mantras are also often more compassionate and slower to get angry. This level headedness is a wonderful trait to have in terms of keeping you emotionally sound.

Affirmations Are a Tool for Boosting Inner Strength

Some people think that affirmations and mantras are one in the same, but they’re not. Rather than being a single word or a sound, an affirmation is made up of complete sentences.

These sentences are designed to delve deep into the subconscious mind to refill the well of inner strength. When people practice these sentences, they’re keys that can help the user see what it is that restores them.

When the affirmations are practiced, the subconscious mind recognizes them. Behavior changes takes place based on how the person then decides to live his or her life.

Affirmations influence the people who use them by causing them to react to pleasant or unpleasant situations with a happier outlook. When affirmations are practiced, it allows the person to replenish the inner strength rather than taking from it.

When you connect with the power of the subconscious mind, you can change your life. What the affirmations do first is affect the way that you think. The way that you think about things will be followed by the way that you act.

So if you’re someone who has a situation in your life that has always robbed you of confidence or affected your self-esteem, practicing affirmations can help you change the way that you react because it changes your thought processes.

You’ll be able to break free of the type of thinking that keeps you stuck. Affirmations give you a positive outlook on life, which in turn leads you to feeling happier and more vibrant.

The positivity adds to your inner strength rather than taking from it. You don’t have to carve out huge blocks of time to be able to practice affirmations. You can say them throughout the day to unleash their positive power.

When you first begin to use affirmations, you might encounter some self-resistance because it can be a struggle to change the way that you’ve always thought about things.

But you can press on and use affirmations to help you until it becomes second nature for you. You can use different affirmations depending on what type of inner strength you need to boost.

For example, if you’re struggling in the area of self-doubt and you feel like a failure in what you try to do, then you need to use an affirmation that supports your success.

For that type of affirmation, you would say something like “I can achieve success” or “Success is drawn to me.” Don’t put it in the future by using words like, “I will succeed.”

If you were struggling with feeling sad or not happy with your life, you would use affirmations that affirmed happiness. You would repeat a sentence such as “Happiness dwells within me” or “Happiness is drawn to me.”

You wouldn’t say, “I will become happier.” You want to keep it in the present. By using affirmations to change your subconscious, you can boost the level of your inner strength.

Using Yoga to Boost Inner Strength

Finding a way to boost your inner strength is a lot easier than you might think. One of the ways that you can do this is by practicing yoga. Yoga is a spiritual practice that uses breathing and postures in meditation and relaxation.

It teaches people how to gain inner strength and get rid of stress. You can use it to help you retain a sense of peace. By working to build up a person’s body and mind strength, it works to boost the inner strength.

You might be living your life and feel that you’re doing what you supposed to do but there are times throughout the day when you simply feel so mentally and emotionally drained, it’s hard to muddle through.

Or you might reach the end of the day and feel as if you gave your all to the point where you have nothing left to give – including to yourself. This will quickly drain your inner strength and if you don’t boost it back, you’ll end up experiencing things like fatigue and emotional and physical upsets.

Yoga is a tool that you can use to influence yourself toward being a positive person and positive people are more successful. The reason is because people who have inner strength have a confidence that others don’t often have.

Practicing yoga makes you feel a greater sense of self because when you take part in the poses, your body releases endorphins that affect your mood and give you a boost.

When you practice yoga on a consistent basis, you’ll notice that you feel better physically and emotionally. The benefit of yoga is that it can be practiced anywhere – including at the office.

When you feel that mental and emotional drain and you know that your inner strength needs a boost, you can use yoga to give you back your energy and clarity.

You’ll feel better about yourself and your abilities. There are different types of yoga that you can use. But some of them are better suited for boosting inner strength than others.

There is Ashtanga, Bikram, Iyenga, Vinyasa and Hatha. Of these, Hatha is more often used for the purpose of boosting inner strength because it has the ability to restore balance to the body.

Finding the Right Self-Help Books to Boost Inner Strength

A great tool that you can use to boost your inner strength is a self-help book. You can find a wide selection of them at retail and online stores that are written specifically to guide you toward greater inner strength.

One of the ways that these books can help you is that they teach you the link that self-esteem has with your actions. When you have lower self-esteem, you also have a lack of confidence in your ability as a person.

This lack of confidence bleeds over into how you perform at work and how well you do in your relationships with other people. When you struggle with your inner strength, it can make you feel less happy than you deserve to feel.

By using a self-help book, you can have the power that you need to reach the best level of inner strength. These books will help you be able to pinpoint how you’re sabotaging yourself in different areas of your life and draining your well of inner strength.

You’ll learn about actions that you’re doing that create a well of negativity and keep you trapped in an ongoing cycle of strength drain. When you gain the inner strength balance that you need, you’ll be able to overcome a lack of self-esteem.

You’ll discover that you feel more confident in your relationships and with your job. You’ll also learn to recognize situations and people in your life that act as drains on your attitude – and how you can deal with these individuals.

A self help book can show you how to restore your inner strength through the use of different techniques that teach calmness and restoration. You’ll be able to view things with a clarity that you didn’t have before.

You’ll learn exactly what inner strength is and the issues that can occur in life that can affect your strength. You’ll learn the negative and positive influences that are around and within you that you need either avoid or cultivate.

By using self help books that show you how to boost your inner strength, you’ll gain a stronger sense of self that will lead you to develop a life of accomplishments and happiness that are well within your reach.

Discovering Your Passion pt2

OK, are you ready to continue with some more tips to discovering your passion or true purpose? Yes, ok then, read on 🙂

Get Outdoors And Let Nature Inspire You!

If you’re just sat down on a sofa or chair right now, surrounded by 4 walls and a ceiling, you’re not alone! In fact, it’s the number one reason that more and more of us have no passion. Our progressively homebound, car-bound, office-bound, computer-bound life-style takes up a lot of our lives and saps our energy and enthusiasm. We just roll along, getting by. Where is the fire and passion in that?!!!!!

Do Something Different

This isn’t what our bodies or brains were built for. Throughout our history, we spent much more time outdoors and living an active lifestyle. Our sedentary life-style is a modern arrival but we’ve surely accepted it and many have grown to like it!

Convenience might be good, but lack of daily action isn’t good for us at all. We were designed to be active and sedentary living has been associated to pretty much every major health disorder of our times: as well as that, it can seriously cause a lack of passion.

So get off your butt and get outside! Switch off the television, push the ottoman away from the couch, lace your shoes and get outdoors for at least half-hour a day, plus a couple of hours every weekend. This surely isn’t too much to ask, is it? You’ll be doing you body AND mind a world of good.

Sure, we understand, you don’t have to go outside to get a great workout. But simply getting outdoors, appreciating nature and looking at flowers is a great way to alleviate depression and also sparks creativity.

There’s no clinical research to affirm it, but don’t you think it kind of makes sense that time spent outside adds to good health, higher relaxation, more fitness, or more passion. After all, whether you’re walking, gardening, biking, or simply getting the mail, being outside inherently means becoming more active than being indoors. It may not be on any medical groups prescrition pad yet (although that is changing and some General Practitioners in the UK do prescribe walking for some conditions), but we say, make more time outside among your top passion improvement goals.”

Here are a few ideas to inspire you to get outside:

Put on outdoor clothes as soon as you get home from work. For many of us, the clothes you wear for work are “indoor” clothes. Make it a ritual: arrive home, take off the suit/shirt/trouser etc. and jump into a tee shirt and jeans/shorts, and begin the 2nd part of your day anew.

Leave any crucial outdoor gear by the door. Outdoor shoes, sunglasses, a brimmed hat, sun block, and bug repellent all are crucial summer outdoor gear. Have them all prepared and ready for an impromtu excursion, and leave them by your front or back door.

Why not try matching meal times with outdoor time. If your dinner took twenty minutes then you know that you need to walk for at least twenty minutes outside after your dinner has gone down.

Do you like gardening? You do, good. Try to do some gardening tasks in small batches. Most of us tend to leave gardening jobs for the weekend and then this results in many hours of difficult work, the last few not really fun. Surely it would be much better to break this up during the week; just get into the garden for small 30-minute bursts throughout the week. Not only will this will get you outside more often, but you will be much less likely to get bored or fatigued as you are only working in short bursts. And best of all, come the weekend, your yard and garden will require only a little work, leaving you more time for play! Win-win all around!”

Adopt more nature walks. If you’ve adopted walking as part of your regimen, fantastic! So, what do you love doing outside? Whether it’s golfing, fishing, doing watercolors, shooting basketballs, playing badminton, playing with your dog, have your gear ready and waiting near your front or back door, ready for instant use.

Get Creative

There’s a huge myth in our civilization: that passion may solely be spontaneous. You either like your job or you do not. You either like working out or detest it. You’re interested in reading books or you find them awful. So there is this belief that passion can’t be coerced or produced. I don’t agree with this at all. Passion may be produced. Even for things you may not presently like.

By fine-tuning the activities and pastimes you engage in, you may discover a passion for anything. All it takes is a little patience and an open mind.

Changing It

The advantage of this is that you wind up loving the things you have to do anyways. Working out, learning, reading, working and nearly any pursuit can be made into a passion you enjoy and look forward to.

And if you understand how to do it, existing passions may be turned from mildly interesting to energising. The skill of discovering your passion is like turning up the dial for the quantity of color you have in life. Here are a few ways to find your passion:

Curiosity is the cornerstone of passion. Forget what you think you know about something and start from the view that you’re almost totally ignorant on the subject. Then seek novelty to boost your interest.

Make it a contest – create rules and objectives for yourself. The more imaginative you can be, the better. Be outrageous.

Set a particular goal and establish a (realistic) deadline. This can infuse routine actions with a greater sense of direction and purpose. Publishing a report goes from being only another task, to a creative challenge that challenges you.

Cut down distractions and get rid of noise. The more you focus on an activity the better you may notice that it has interesting qualities about it. The only really boring activity are the ones you aren’t pay attention to and this is all down to a lack of focus.

Discover ways to utilize skills you already have in a fresh endeavor. An artistic individual could draw images to help himself study. An athletic individual may be able to utilize her strength and endurance as a speaker.”

If an action appears to be too difficult for you to become enthusiastic about it, don’t worry. The key here is to not rush it and try to force it; allow things to happen naturally. Focus less on the outcomes and more about experimenting until you are able to develop the skill.

Conclusion

If you believe in something, are passionate about it and can clearly visualise the end result, you can feel a sense of certainty that you will achieve it. It’s no longer a question of if, but when. And this is powerful.

With this level of certainty you can quit stressing over what might or might not happen in the future because you know that you’re going to accomplish it and that’s final. Accomplishment merely becomes a matter of doing X to accomplish Y.

You can now live in the present because you know that your future is in your hands and you WILL achieve whatever you set out to do!

Set a direction for your life and love the ride!

The Basics

Discovering your passion in life is imperative if you really want to have a happy, fun and fulfilling life so don’t you think that it is worth the effort to discover what you are truly passionate about; how amazing would it feel if you could make that the focus of your job/career or business? Are you interested? Well let’s get started!

Look after yourself.

It’s pretty simple but when you start paying attention to your body, and its well-being, things will come to you. Just by getting up off the sofa and doing a bit of exercise every day, it may get your blood pumping and your brain working (and this doesn’t have to be strenuous, just try some light running or walking). Pay attention to your ideas as you “work out”, and a few invigorating things might just flow into your head.

Listen to your inner child.

Did you have a big dream or aspiration as a child or when you were growing up? What happened to it; did you try to reach it or did it just fizzle out? As youngsters, we have no obligations and the sky is the limit, and that leads us to daydream. The problems start as we grow older and “reality” kicks in and the we find that a few of these daydreams need to be put on the back burner for “grownup obligations.”

Become like a kid again; dream big with no limitations and just see how that makes you feel without the burden of obligation.”

Look for guidance.

However well you think you know yourself it is always a clever idea to get an outside perspective; your friends and family may be able to help you recognize what you are great at, and what a few of your hopes and aspirations are. And you may be surprised by what they associate with you, but don’t dismiss it out of hand. By connecting to these individuals, and asking for guidance, you may discover answers that can help you to discover your true purpose.

Write down ideas.

Whenever you think of an idea, write it down so you don’t forget. I get some of my best ideas when I am about to drift off to sleep so I keep a pen and notepad next to my bed so I can jot it down and look over it in the morning! By writing your ideas down, you may be able to identify any recurring themes. Delving into your subconscious to try to discover a secret wish or goal may be difficult, but if you really listen to what your subconscious is telling you, you may be able to discover a passion in life you never even realised you had!

Voluntary work.

By stepping outside of yourself, and helping other people, you may recover some of the joy that you seek. Helping the elderly may be a terrific way to hear about their life experiences and this may spark off an interest that you didn’t realise you had. It can be difficult to discover a passion in life, but you need to be persistent and never quit trying.”

So, what are you waiting for? Once you have a few thoughts that interest you, why not try to get moving in a new career or interest. By taking classes, internships or a new job, you may discover what you are really passionate about and this will make you feel so good if you can make this a big part of your life.

Using Your Surroundings

There are many factors which will determine whether you will be able to get in touch with your true inner passion, but don’t you think that it is worth the effort to do so?

However, working out how to dig out those long-entombed passions and interests can be an entirely different story. If you like to learn visually, one fantastic way to discover your passions is to produce a vision board. These are pretty powerful and you may discover yourself taking steps that will open up your mind and let you relax and allow your innermost desires to suddenly appear.

Meditation, music and pictures may inspire you once you start your vision board; however, a different thing that you might not have thought about is your surroundings. If your surroundings support creativity, they may inspire you to discover your passions.  Different surroundings will work for different people and could be both indoors or outdoors; just go with what works for you. Whether you’re most pleased in a neutral room with passive colors and decor or choose brilliant, vibrant items surrounding you, you need to discover what type of surrounding works best for YOU by doing some experimenting. This is like trying out various kinds of music to determine which relaxes you most.”

And don’t be afraid to venture outdoors too! Take the time to sit in a couple of different spaces, surrounded by different items to discover out what gets your creative juices flowing. Relaxation is great, but the urge to accomplish something is even greater.

Whether your environment makes you want to sing or take a photo, draw or compose or just sit and dream; the idea is to discover the paragon place for you to connect with your inner self.

And remember that you are an individual; some people connect with themselves while they’re unwinding whereas other people need some kind of stimulant to stir their creative juices. There is no right or wrong here; regardless of what kind of surroundings work for you, the important idea here is to open your brain to all the possibilities and move into a place where you may see yourself working toward a goal of some kind.”

When you start to think about creative surroundings you might feel that in order to be creative you need to be surrounded by works of art etc. but in all honesty creative environments aren’t just about the decor, it’s more about how it makes you feel an inspire you.

So if your creative place is sitting under a tree in the woods listening to birdsong, or in a window seat with sunshine streaming in, that’s fantastic. It’s all about YOU and how your place makes YOU feel.

Even if you are not going to make a vision board, it’s crucial to spend some time in a creative place so that you may stay in touch with your inner passions and creative thinking. This encourages a more balanced mental attitude and less tension in your life.

Expand Your Mind

Have you ever wanted to have a carefree, passionate and fun-loving personality, however felt it just wasn’t you or how you were meant to be? This is garbage! There’s a way to have a creative, cheerful outlook with plenty of happiness and meaning in life and to also be a responsible individual.

Expand Your Brain

To begin with, you have to believe and be open to trying fresh things. Is it really that simple? Yes, but the problem is that it doesn’t happen overnight and in todays modern fast-paced society we want everything instantly. But isn’t it worth exercising a little patience for something that can enrich your life forever?

In order for your life to enlarge, your brain needs to expand. The brain need exercising, just like your muscles. The more you use it, the more it will grow to meet the deamands that you are placing upon it. When you are being creative and thinking or trying fresh things, your brain expands. And an extended brain is an enriched brain. And not only does your brain become enriched; you also become enriched, and so do all areas of your life.

It may lead to more passion in life, an extroverted personality or you are able to speak up and meet new, interesting individuals. You may be more experimental and try new fun things, and build self-assurance and self-regard, and all these “side-effects” will bring you more happiness and meaning in life.”

And doesn’t that sound like the kind of life that you really want to lead?

Now, there are a number of ways to expand your beliefs and actions in daily life. The biggest issue is that life gets in the way and occasionally we discover ourselves in a rut that we simply can’t seem to get out of.

And as human beings we are generally lazy and follow the path of least resistance and we have a disposition to put on our autopilot and just go through the, without consciously thinking about what’s going on around us.

Have you ever been rushing home from work or school, and once you got in, you snap out of it and couldn’t recall a thing about the journey home? Your automatic pilot kicked in and did the driving for you, and that’s pretty handy, isn’t it? Well, yes it is but it isn’t doing you any favours. The trouble is, your brain didn’t expand one little bit on that journey home. How about next time, you say to yourself “I’m going to try a fresh road home, simply for the fun of it.” What could occur?

  1. First of all your automatic pilot is off, so you’re now having to pay attention and use your conscious brain driving home.
  2. Who knows what you might find on that fresh route? A fresh eating place you haven’t tried? A re-modeled shop that might interest you? Another coffee shop than the one you constantly go to in the morning?

OK, I believe you get the picture. “Must I keep driving this new route?” you may ask. Of course you don’t, unless you actually prefer. The point is that you tried something different today. You changed your brain in a little way, and that makes it grow.

Another way of making the commute more enriching is to listen to inspirational and informative audio; this could be podcasts or cassette tapes/CD’s of your favourite speakers. All this is food for your brain!

The great this about all this is that once you decide to try fresh new things, who knows what lively fresh individuals and experiences you might meet along the way? And think about how these new experiences could impact on your life and push you forward in a new, exciting direction!

The example above speaks more about the mental attitude you picked out, rather than the modest decision to take a fresh road home. You see, once you begin making minor changes, it gets to become a habit, which leads to greater shifts.

Those greater shifts may lead to all sorts of fantastic things for you. You’ll see more serendipity, creative thinking and passion in your life; you’ll formulate a more outgoing personality and attempting fresh fun things may open the door to meet fresh lively individuals.

In time, this may all build self-assurance and self-regard, and bring much more happiness and significance into your life. You’ll be believing less “I can’t do that”, and more “Well, I can and will do that!”

Your mindset is a critical key to getting all you want out of life so nurture it and reap the rewards. Ignore this at your peril!
