Content Marketing

Filling Your Blog Editorial Calendar

Filling Your Blog Editorial Calendar

Filling Your Blog Editorial Calendar

When you get an idea to become a bona fide blogger, you really want to start off on the right foot. You know how blogging works and you take the time to find out which platform is best, which plugins will help you make the most of your visitors’ experience – but you get stuck when it comes time to create the actual content for your blog.

You’ll find that many marketers who teach this topic are always talking about themes and plugins – but that’s often because they make a significant commission on the promotion of those tools.

When it comes time to instruct you on creating content, they’re often just as lost as you are about the process, so you’re left struggling in front of your audience. It can be embarrassing and it can hurt your blog traffic if you start abandoning your blog frequently to wait for inspiration to strike.

By the way, if you are serious and want to take your blogging to the next level, check out the Rapid Blogging Blueprint. This is a premium level training that takes you through each and every step of setting up your own highly profitable blog and profiting from it. You can check it out here.

You have to take a three-pronged approach to blogging. First, get everything organized. If you’re scattered on your blog, it confuses the readers, search engine spiders – and even you.

Then you want to map out a schedule for your blogging efforts. Having a deadline for yourself can benefit you and help you work towards a specific goal, not just something vague.

Last, you want to begin creating your content – and we’re going to cover three options for you to choose from – a series, an individual post, or a guest blog post (and you can mix these up – you don’t have to choose from just one).

Getting Your Editorial Calendar Organized

There are two things you can do to get organized. The first is a planning calendar and the second is an editorial calendar, which is for completed work that you are doing on your blog.

You can either buy a calendar or print one out from a site like this: http://www.pdfcalendar.com/monthly/. Print one out for the current month, and possibly the next month. You can schedule it as far out as you like.

This is your planning calendar. You can use this to fill in the days with whatever you’ll be blogging about (and we’ll go over that shortly). This helps you plan what needs to be written, and when.

This is perfect for using yourself or for whenever you’re using a freelance ghostwriter to create your blog content and you want to share it with them so that they can plan for publishing dates.

Once you have the blog posts created, you can use a different type of organizer to help you schedule them for publication. A free plugin called WordPress Editorial Calendar makes this a simple drag and drop process.

As soon as you upload a new post, you can drag the post around on your calendar to wherever you want it to be for it to go live. This can help if you have some timely information that needs to bump a previously scheduled topic.

By using a calendar plugin, you can glance quickly at your blog schedule and see where there are gaps. You want a consistent publication schedule, and we’ll look at that in depth next!

How Often Should You Be Blogging?

Many people want to know how often they have to blog. Well if you feel that way, you probably shouldn’t be blogging in the first place! Blogging should be for someone who can’t WAIT to wake up in the morning and share more information with people.

If you lack that, it could be a sign that you’re in the wrong niche. But let’s talk about traffic and authority. You’ll see some leaders in a niche who blog very infrequently.

This is sometimes because blogging is a side tool for them. They primarily use other things like television, radio, webinars and live, in person seminars to attract and cultivate an audience.

For bloggers who want to use this platform as their primary source of audience engagement, then you need to make a commitment to show up and share on a regular basis.

The more, the better – but there’s an asterisk to that*

* It’s only better when there’s more if there’s something valuable that you’re sharing. In other words, don’t blog just to blog. Don’t slap up meaningless content that dilutes the truly valuable blog posts you have just because someone told you to blog 3 times a day.

What you ought to do is go through and develop your editorial calendars to see how much content you can conceivably create. You’ll be surprised at how many ideas you generate once you understand how to look for good blog ideas.

As far as search engine bots (spiders) are concerned, they like to see a certain amount of “freshness” in your blog. They typically start off visiting your blog once every couple of weeks, but they narrow their visitation schedule to index your site if you blog regularly, and this looks good and helps you get content indexed faster.

It’s also helpful to your blog subscribers if you blog frequently. If this is a topic they’re interested in, then you want to be the go-to authority figure in your niche – the person they know will have continual updates and fresh information.

A daily schedule may be best but this can be quite hard to stick to. Some people post several times and day, and this is great too, but the problem is that their posts may be a little shallow and not have much depth or detail. Don’t burden yourself trying to reach that goal, though. Just be consistent. Sometimes less is more.

If you can only manage to post 2-3 times a week, then do it two to three times a week, but ensure your posts are high-quality and of a decent length i.e., at least 1000 words long.

However, there is such as thing as blogging too little. When you start going weeks or months without blogging, don’t expect a blog audience to stick around and become subscribers and fans of your content. In fact, they won’t even know who you are!

7 Steps To Optimize Your Affiliate Marketing

7 Steps To Optimize Your Affiliate Marketing

7 Steps To Optimize Your Affiliate Marketing

To succeed in affiliate marketing, you’ll need all the gears in your affiliate marketing ‘machine’ to be perfectly aligned so that the machine runs smoothly and generates sales like clockwork.

In order to reach this stage, there are a few factors that you must be aware of and make sure that they’re all optimized so that your marketing efforts yield the best results.

Getting them wrong can end in frustration and a loss of time, energy and money, so you need an effective affiliate marketing strategy.

Let’s look at an effective 7 step affiliate marketing plan to get you started in the right direction.

Formulate A Plan

If you fail to plan, you’re planning to fail. Before even getting started on the content creation or buying a domain, you’ll need to assess if your niche is worth targeting.

Is it overly competitive? Are there enough products to promote? Will you be targeting long tail keywords?

You need to know your plan of attack and exactly what you’re going to do. That is your first step.

Research And Reach

The second step is research and reach. You must do a lot of research before diving into the niche. It’s fine to even spend a week or two doing thorough research.

You’ll get a feel for the niche and know just how far your reach will be. Better to be well-prepared than to get started and be unprepared.

If the niche you are in has a very small audience, your earning capacity will be limited. While you can still give it a try, it’s inevitable that you reach an income ceiling that you can’t seem to break through. So, be aware of this.

Traffic

Traffic is of paramount importance. The more targeted traffic you have, the more sales you’ll make.

So, you need to know where you’ll be driving traffic from and what you’re going to do.

Focus a huge chunk of your efforts on getting the right traffic to your web properties.

Content Creation And Marketing

No matter what affiliate product you’re promoting, there will be some type of content creation involved.

You could be writing blog posts or creating infographics or just pinning images on Pinterest – whatever the case, it is content creation and marketing.

People come online looking for information. They’re looking for content. The better and more engaging it is, the more visitors you’ll attract and retain.

Your goal should always be to help the visitor out. Avoid appearing like a rapacious marketer who only hard sells and hypes products up. It’ll just turn off most people and cost you sales.

Promoting

When you’re online, you must promote your content. Actively post your images in image sharing sites, share your videos in as many places as you can, get in front of as many crowds as you can, etc.

There are people on Pinterest who love gardening. There are also people in Facebook groups who love gardening. Let’s not forget all those people who subscribe to gardening channels on YouTube… because they love gardening.

Guess what? Most of them are not on all 3 sites. The audiences will be different. So, by promoting your content on different platforms, you’ll reach more people.

Analyzing

Analyze your traffic stats, clicks, sales, conversions, etc. Even if numbers scare you, after a while you’ll get a hang of things.

Once you understand the numbers, you’ll know how to scale your efforts and improve upon the winning strategies while ditching the poorer performing ones.

Knowing your numbers is a crucial skill to learn for any successful entrepreneur or affiliate marketer.

Rinsing And Repeating

Last but not least, find out what’s working and keep repeating your efforts. Rinse, lather and repeat.

Consistency is everything and your repeated efforts multiplied over time will result in avalanches of sales.

Follow the 7 steps above and you’ll be an affiliate marketer par excellence.

Now you have a plan, let’s look at some of the folks you will need to deal with in the world of affiliate marketing.

Who Are The 3 Types Of People Involved In Affiliate Marketing?

In your affiliate marketing journey, it’s very important to know that you’ll encounter 3 different groups of people. Knowing who they are is very important because you need to know how to deal with them.

Each group is different and poses its own type of challenges. By understanding how the different people in the groups behave, you’ll be better prepared to handle them and be in their good books.

Let’s look at the groups now.

The Publishers

The ‘publishers’ refer to affiliates just like you. These are the people who create niche sites or run YouTube channels or Facebook groups. Even the affiliates who use paid ads can be considered as publishers.

The goal of most publishers is to put out relevant content or ads that attract people who will click on their links and buy their affiliate products. The publishers are your ‘competition’ and you must watch them closely.

If you have a niche site on fishing tips, where you promote fishing-related products, the other sites that show up on the first page of the search results are your competition. They could be affiliates or actual brand name companies selling their products.

You’ll notice that there can be an overlap here because affiliates can sell their own products too. Let’s look at the next group to get a better picture.

The Advertisers

The ‘advertisers’ refer to the companies who create the products you promote. They recruit affiliates to do the selling and they also advertise on their own to boost their sales.

An affiliate who promotes other vendors’ products but also creates his/her own products to sell, now finds himself/herself in the advertisers group. Similarly, the company that’s selling fishing rods and publishes lots of fishing tips and content on it’s official blog is now a publisher too.

So, the groups can overlap. What’s important to know is that while fellow publishers can be your competition, you can also network with them to promote their products if they’re vendors too. So, now your competition has become a mutually beneficial relationship.

At the same time, the vendor whose products you were promoting, might end up ranking for a lot of keywords that you’re targeting, because their marketing is on point. So, the vendor you were trying to support, has now become your competition.

Alas, the tangled webs we weave! Generally, companies try not to compete with their affiliates. But if you notice that the one you’re supporting is posing competition for you, you’ll need to reassess your marketing strategy and see if you wish to still support them.

The Consumers

This group is without a doubt the most important of the three. The consumers are the people who come online looking for information and solutions to their problems. Most of them don’t come looking to spend money or buy stuff.

They want help. Your job as an affiliate marketer is to give them enough information to help them a little and whet their appetite for more information that will help them solve their problems faster and easier.

If you have a website on back pain, the content in your site can talk about the different causes of back pain and natural remedies that could help. However, if they wish to bring much needed relief, you can mention that the special ‘Pain Away Pulse Massager’ has been shown to help many back-pain sufferers.

Now, not only is the visitor better informed about his condition and has a choice of home remedies that he or she can try, but they have been subtly introduced to a product that brings much needed immediate relief.

What do you think they’ll do?

Soak in that Epsom salt home bath which is a home remedy… or get the pulse massager to ease their pain quickly?

Most of them will get the pulse massager. The content you provide is a vehicle that not only helps them become better informed, but also transports them through the invisible journey that they need to traverse to go from reader to buyer.

Understand the different people who are involved in this affiliate marketing circle and you will be much wiser in your marketing efforts.

Never Stop Learning

Never Stop Learning Marketing

Never Stop Learning – Expanding Your Marketing Knowledge Is Crucial

Growing up, you may have heard the phrase “never stop learning,” which is such a powerful statement. The phrase goes for everyone in the world. Without knowledge, it may be hard to go through life and you certainly won’t achieve all that you would like!

Everyone everywhere has to learn something so they can survive. It is important to survive in the business world as well, so here are some tips and advice to expand your marketing knowledge.

First of all, if you are an Internet marketer, you have the power to learn new things by doing a simple search. There are sources out there which are not the most reliable, but still, you can learn something from it.

If you read a blog or an article online, think about it objectively. See if there is anything on that blog or in the article that you may never have used in with your own marketing. How can you start to implement it in your own business?

If the blog or article mentions something unfamiliar to you, keep that new idea in mind and do further research on it. New information should always prompt you to do more research about something, thus expanding your knowledge.

If the information is good, you will find out more about it and if it is bad, then the article you are reading may not be worth it.

Marketing tips are all over the place. Sometimes you have to think outside of the box. For instance, you will walk around and notice that advertising is all around you.

From the time you wake up, get your morning coffee and eat your breakfast, to the time you go to sleep for the night, there are hundreds upon hundreds of types of advertising you saw in one day.

You know that billboards are common, radio commercials, and even newspaper ads, but you may not think of the shirts people wear, or signs on the street as ways to advertise too.

Did you ever go to the city and see a sign for something like a museum or theatre and wonder what it will be like to go there? Well, thinking about that, is that not a way to market your brand?

Of course if you go to a big city and you are only an Internet marker, you may not be able to get a big sign placed on the street that says something like “this way to such and such brand,” but you get the idea.

So if you are an Internet marketer, there are tons of other things you can do to market your brand online instead.

Word of mouth is a common and cost-effective way. This is where you need to be creative. You may think that just asking your customers to tell people they know about you is enough.

There is more than meets the eye here though. Just telling people alone may not work. What you can do is make the time you spend with your client fun and engaging.

Most of the time if they are laughing or really enjoy themselves when they are doing business with you, they will tell their friends. They do this because people love to share things that are funny or memorable. If it is not done in a way that people will enjoy, they may forget about it themselves.

Simply making a video for YouTube talking about your brand is not the most effective way to go about it. Actually the most creative ways I have seen effective advertising is when you don’t even realize they are advertisements.

You can put a funny video of your or someone using a product that you sell. Talk a little about the product then use it in the video. What you don’t realize is people will see it and may go out and purchase the product. Don’t forget to let them know that you have a link to the product so if they buy through your link, you’ll make some money!

They want to use the product the same way that made them laugh in the video. One other way you can be creative with this is by going to an event of some sort and demonstrate your product. The more ways people can see how to use the product, the better chance you have at making some great sales.

There are many people in this world that are full of ideas and you will never know if they will work or not if you don’t try it yourself or expand your knowledge about it. Talk amongst your friends or engage with your audience online and see if they have any ideas.

With your friends, you can pretty much ask them directly if they have any ideas for you. With clients you won’t be able to be so direct.

After you have some idea of what you want to do for a funny or entertaining ad, talk a little about it online to your customers. Have people vote on two different ideas by asking “would you want to see this product used this way, or that way.”

Of course replace the “this” and “that” with the actual thing you will be doing. That way, you asked for their idea without really asking at all.

When you have an answer from your clients, the next thing to do is to make the video. Of course if you are camera shy, get someone who isn’t to do it.

Instead of a video, however, you may be able to write a song. Don’t sing the song yourself if you aren’t the best at singing unless you can be funny about it.

So I hope this article helped to expand your marketing knowledge just a little bit 😊. It is crucial to do this as you need to survive out there in the business world.

People will remember funny or entertaining methods of advertising instead of simply telling them about it. Do your research too and don’t just take the advice as you read it; make sure it is legit and that more than one person says it works.

Can You Really Make Money By Blogging

Can You Really Make Money By Blogging?

Can You Really Make Money By Blogging?

Blogging has been around for a long time on the Internet. It started out as a creative outlet for people to take their personal journals online to share with family and friends.

It branched out into outlets of information to be shared by experts and now people use them for a money-making opportunity.

Blogs are excellent tools to earn some extra money without having to invest start-up cash. They’re loved by the search engines because blogs are usually updated frequently, unlike websites that are updated less often.

Millions of people visit blogs every day for information or entertainment purposes.  A lot of the blog visitors are ones that come back to check in on the latest entries into a blogger’s world.

They link their blog to your blog, which increases your reader base. The blog’s traffic becomes so huge that your chances for earning increase.  Using AdSense ads are the most popular way to generate income from your blog.

By strategically placing the ads on the blog, you can entice visitors to click on them, with each click earning you a share of the profits Google takes in. While a couple of clicks earn you very little, a high flow of traffic and clicks earns you a substantial amount.

To make a lot of money with AdSense, you have to drive traffic to the blog. The most important concept with AdSense is to remember that you have to make the ads visible and not hidden somewhere in the blog where they can’t be seen.  The more people who click away, the more money you’ll make.

Another way some people make money from their blogs is by using advertisement space. Advertisers scramble to place one of their banners on the more popular blogs. They’re willing to pay you based on the traffic numbers you generate and the prime space available within your blog.

There are many ways you can monetize ad space.  You might charge a flat fee, take a commission based on the number of click-throughs, or make a deal where you get a percentage of the sale of a product, much like an affiliate marketer does.

If your blog is extremely popular, then there’s more of a chance that advertiser’s will compete to have their banners placed in your space.  Blogs are a good way to earn some money by sharing your thoughts, feeling and even your daily tasks.

Choose a topic that has a high number of searches, launch a free blog at Blogger.com or WordPress.com, and strategically implement your ads and offers to start seeing a steady income build over time.

However, if you want to take blogging seriously, you need to consider paying for hosting and a domain name and using WordPress.org because you will have much more control over your blog and this is critical for your success in the long run if you are thinking about using your blog as a serious money maker.

By the way, if you are serious and want to take your blogging to the next level, check out the Rapid Blogging Blueprint. This is a premium level training that takes you through each and every step of setting up your own highly profitable blog and profiting from it. You can check it out here.

Now you have your blog up and running, you need to get traffic to it and spread the word about it and there are a number of ways to do that.

Where To Advertise Your Blog For The Best Results

Getting your blog set up is the easy part of the process. Now comes the difficult part – getting visitors! You need to find traffic to come to your blog or it won’t be a profitable investment of your time.

There are several different places where you can advertise your blog. Some will cost a small amount and others won’t cost you a penny.

Start with the free options and as you begin to see a return on your investment of time, you can invest some profits back into marketing your blog with paid options.

Free

  1. Join message board communities. This is a simple way to advertise your blog. Interact with your fellow users and advertise your blog in your signature line, if it’s allowed. If it’s not allowed, there’s usually a folder available within that forum that does allow you to advertise your sites. Use them.
  2. Join a social networking site. These sites are a good way to network with like-minded people who are interested in the same subject your blog is about. Join the community and get to know the other members and then you can supply them with a link to your blog. Many in social networking circles provide cross-promotions, so you’ll probably accumulate a lot of valuable backlinks to your blog.
  3. Utilize social bookmarking sites. Write a great thought provoking post on your blog and submit it to sites like Digg.com or del.icio.us. There are hundreds of people who spend hours at these sites searching for good websites to check out. Your blog can get a surge of traffic through this strategic and viral sharing method.
  4. Join a blogging community like BlogEngage (Paid) or DoSplash. This offers you a way of connecting with other bloggers who may do a review of your blog on theirs, which would help drive more traffic to your site.

Paid

  1. Use advertising campaigns like Google AdWords. Place an ad on the search engine result pages and pay only when someone clicks on the link. Make sure you use the best keywords to get the ad noticed, so that you can drive more traffic to your blog.
  2. Use text link advertising. Contact some of the more popular blogs in your niche and see if they would be willing to sell you some advertising space through text links. If the price is right, take the chance to have traffic driven to your site from theirs. Not all sites will be willing to do this, so keep trying different ones until you get one to say yes.

There are certainly more ways to accomplish effective advertising for your blog. You can market it the same way you would any other website online.  The key is to keep costs down while maximizing your selling potential within the blog.

Is Affiliate Marketing Good For Beginners?

Is Affiliate Marketing Good For Beginners?

Is Affiliate Marketing Good For Beginners?

There are so many things to learn in the world of online marketing. Beginners can easily become overwhelmed by all of the various business models, tools, and courses they can learn from and implement.

Affiliate marketing is perfect for beginners to embrace because it cuts down on the learning curve substantially. Instead of having to learn everything about online marketing from a soup to nuts perspective, you can simply chop off the product creation elements and pick up with the post-creation promo strategies.

All you need is to find an offer with a good affiliate program. And there are many affiliate platforms in many niches; what about the Amazon affiliate program, or for more digital products, what about Warrior Plus, Clickbank or JVZoo?

You can get started without a website; you simply need your affiliate links to the offer(s) you are promoting. This is a big blessing to many beginner affiliate marketers who want to set up some promotions, but don’t yet know the ins and outs of domains, hosting and blog setup details.

You don’t need to learn product creation skills. The hassle of product development, automated delivery to the customer, and subsequent customer service issues is very draining to someone who is a beginner online.

You will need to learn niche research skills. If you choose a niche that you enjoy or are passionate about, it will make the niche research portion very enjoyable. You’ll want to tackle this aspect of affiliate marketing like an adventure – where you’re always discovering new information and sharing it with your audience.

You’ll want to understand SEO (Search Engine Optimization) if you have a site of your own. Some affiliates do start out with their $10 or so domain and under $10 a month hosting account – just so they won’t have to do this step later.

When you start out this way, or really even if you’re using free platforms, you’ll want to learn the very basic steps associated with SEO. That means understanding keywords and using them in your content creation to attract the right people to your affiliate offers.

Mastering the art of reviews will serve you well as an affiliate. Forget about being a professional writer. Just being casual in your conversations online is what helps buyers trust you and be willing to part with their money.

Beginners do very well in affiliate marketing if they keep their ethics intact. Sometimes, desperation for a quick income can cause you to compromise your beliefs. But if you do that, you’ll shoot yourself in the foot because you’ll be building a reputation as a scammer instead of a leader.

Don’t be afraid to ask for help as an affiliate whenever you get stuck. There are many people online who are willing to explain things and hold your hand through the newbie stage of affiliate marketing.

Ongoing Affiliate Marketing Training

Learning affiliate marketing is not something that happens after you read one blog post, or buy one course, or absorb and implement a video tutorial. It’s an on-going process that evolves over time.

You want to think of affiliate marketing as a continuing education system where you’re always learning, always bettering, and always improving your conversion rates. And that will help your earnings soar.

Learn from a wide variety of people. Yes, over time you’ll have your favorite teachers to learn from – but it’s important t see what kind of golden nuggets other instructors can share that might resonate well with you.

Tackle different styles of affiliate marketing. If you’re only in tangible marketing, why not try to learn how to add digital affiliate marketing to the mix – or vice versa? Or if you’re only using Amazon, why not figure out how to add Commission Junction?

Learn how to advance and tweak your strategies. Never just stick with a beginner’s mindset. You want to learn how to really click with your visitors. So let’s say you feel like you know how to write a product review.

You might be doing just fine with it. But wouldn’t you like to add more conversions, regardless? Who wouldn’t? So learn about how to connect with customers, how to build trust with an audience, and so on. Really expand your learning process to the outer edges.

Test the results of more than one method. Don’t stick with making comparison tables in blog post after blog post – even if it’s working for you. Branch out and learn other methods, like top 10 lists for example.

Understand that the web changes. What may have worked to get you traffic and sales two years ago could be highly obsolete today. You want to keep your pulse on the market and see how trends have evolved.

When video marketing hit the scene, it was an incredible edge some affiliates had over their text-only affiliate competitors because they were able to build trust quickly and easily – and reach more prospects because of YouTube.

Try to invest in several different styles of teaching. A downloadable course is one method. But have you looked into affiliate marketing memberships where you can interact with other affiliates and share strategies?

Or how about paying for a few sessions with an affiliate marketing mentor or coach? That way they could specifically analyze your efforts and help you make headway with your promotions and profits.

Evaluating Info Products For Possible Promotions

If you’re an affiliate marketer who wants to promote digital information products for a commission, then you have to go about it carefully if you want the highest conversion rate with the least amount of refunds.

You want to protect your blog readers and list subscribers from making a worthless purchase, so evaluating the products and reviewing them the right way is important. There are three things you can do to get good results.

Dig around into the product seller’s reputation. Before you buy, you want to know whether the product owner is one of the good guys, or one of the shady marketers.

Sending your customers to buy from someone who doesn’t practice ethics is like sending a lamb to slaughter. They trust you. So make sure you’re looking out for them.

Don’t just read the sales copy to see how you feel about this seller, start digging around online. Look at things like IM Report Card and various forums where anyone has reviewed one of their past products.

If they’re engaging in forums or on their blog, make sure you look to see how they treat people and how they act. Are they someone you’d want to send a good friend or family member to learn from?

You might even test the waters yourself by emailing the marketer to ask a question. How they handle customer service issues could affect your decision on whether or not to promote their products.

Don’t ask for a review copy – buy the product. Sometimes, getting a review copy can make some affiliates feel like they’re obligated to say good things about the product. You want to give an unbiased review, so buying it frees up your conscience.

Another reason to buy it is so that you can go through the process and share what it was like to your readers. Did you encounter any upsells, downsells or one time offers? Did you get immediate access to the product after paying?

Do an implementation review, not just a sales copy review. Too many affiliates simply read the sales copy and report on what the product is. If you want better conversions, then you need to put the product to the test!

Start by reviewing why you decided to buy this product, what you did or didn’t like about the sales copy and buying process, and then share your experience (not the product details) on what it was like to use the product for your own business.
