Stay Motivated By Keeping A Journal
Stay Motivated By Keeping A Journal

Think back to the last time you had a surge of motivation. Try to remember how it made you feel. What was going through your mind then? If you can’t remember, that’s okay. Just be ready for it when it happens again. If you do remember or find it’s happening again, considering recording your thought processes in a journal.
Sometimes, when you can jar your memory on how you got motivated or stayed motivated, you can reproduce that again. If you record your feelings and actions in a journal, you can simply refer to the journal anytime you need to get that back.
Consider using an actual paper journal rather than recording online. Documents tend to get lost online, and people often forget. With a physical journal in front of you, it will show itself at every moment.
This way when you need that push, you can simply open up the journal and start reading. However, if you feel that you can make it work with an online journal, go for it.
You can also record motivational tips from others into your journal that you find. This gives you more to draw from when you have a need to motivate. Sometimes, these tips can happen in the strangest places, so make sure you have a way of capturing if you don’t have your journal with you for some reason.
Another benefit to keeping a journal about your motivations is you could eventually turn it into a book and sell it. Self-help and motivation is a huge topic for both eBooks and courses.
Also, the fact that you are drawing from true situations that you experience will go a long way when producing your book. People love true stories about motivation.
Don’t worry about what you write in your journal. The key is to keep consistent with it. If you write something that doesn’t make sense or is silly, either disregard it or remove it from your journal.
Are You More Motivated To Do Things For Others Than Yourself?

When you find a job, you try to do your best work for your employer. Assuming you work for a decent company, they will recognize you for performing well. If you’re lucky, you may even get a raise and a promotion. If you are good at your job, why don’t you start working for yourself and reap the rewards?
People who start their own business often find they are less motivated when the rubber meets the road. In theory, it sounds great to be your own boss. But, the reality sets in, and you now have to handle every aspect of your business. This is something you didn’t have to do when working for someone else.
It’s much easier to do what others say than it is to motivate yourself to run your business. First, we are not born with business acumen. We need to learn how to run a business, and we need to find people willing to pay us for our products and services. Even when we do learn these crucial concepts, there’s no guarantee that we’ll succeed with them.
The manager or boss took responsibility to know what needs to get done and hands out assignments accordingly. The manager is also taking on problems that you may run into and deals with other outside entities, so you don’t have to.
When you run things for yourself, you have none of those working for you. It’s all incumbent upon you to take care of everything. Even if you hire others, you are now the boss. There is no longer any buffer. You are it.
Hiring people can still be a great way to take some of the responsibilities off of your plate. For instance, if you don’t have time to bring in new business, hire a good salesperson or team. Pay them well and let them take on this task.
If you can’t deal with billing, hire someone for this task as well. There are third-party services that you can use, so you don’t have to increase your staff count.
This is not meant to discourage you from branching out on your own. You just have to be aware that it’s a whole different arrangement than when you worked for someone else.
Are Incentives Good Motivation For Businesses?

The news is always harping on about tax breaks or other incentives given to businesses to attract or keep them in a town, state or country.
These stories often present the dark side of incentives. It shows the evil giant corporation taking advantage of the state incentives. There is some truth to this, but without those incentives, those businesses will look elsewhere.
These businesses often get criticized for not being good corporate citizens in the areas where they get the incentives. They use up the resources of the community while giving little or nothing back.
The idea behind incentives is certainly a good one. Encourage businesses to build or update the business in exchange for tax breaks, tax credits, or some other benefit. This does motivate businesses to come or stay in that area. But, it is often a one-sided deal with the business driving the process. When this happens, the business gets to dictate the terms. This is why hiring tends to be less than they promised and community development from the business falls by the wayside.
Governments also like to save corporations when they get into trouble. Essentially, they throw money at the company in the hope that it will somehow magically start being profitable again. Money doesn’t help bad companies. It only prolongs the inevitable.
Some may argue that even if companies don’t hire the number of people they promised, at least they are hiring. There is some truth to this, but it’s at a cost to the taxpayer. Are the fewer number of employees going to generate enough economic benefit to make the incentives worthwhile?
It’s clear that businesses will be motivated to find the best incentives to set up shop. On the surface, it seems like it makes sense. However, what typically transpires is that it never works as well for the community as it was supposed to.
In the 1980’s, several Japanese companies set up business in the United States. Many of them refused to take the tax incentives at the time. They felt that the community needed the money and that the company is a member of the community.

Manage Time With A Success Mindset
Manage Time With A Success Mindset

So, you’re anxious to reach those goals you’ve set for yourself and your online business, but you quickly realize that there’s only so much time in the day. No matter how hard you try, you feel as though you’re always one step behind.
One thing becomes very clear: You need a plan.
Without a system designed to place a value on each hour you spend working on your business, you’ll find yourself frantically scrambling to meet deadlines, follow through on launches and prioritize what is most important to your business.
This article has been written to help you get more done in less time by levelling up your productivity score quickly and easily.
The strategies contained in this article are designed to help you learn to value your time, make informed decisions about the kind of work you’re focused on and ultimately, beat the clock.
Let’s begin. There’s no time to waste. 😊
Lose The Employee Mindset!

One of the reasons so many people seem to struggle to gain traction in their business is entirely due to the way they manage their daily activities.
This typically points to one major problem: People are stuck in an employee mindset!
They’re so used to that 9-5 grind that they aren’t equipped to adopt an entrepreneurial mindset, which will help them make the transition so they can train themselves to focus on the most important tasks: prioritizing their time and assigning value to the time they spend building their business.
As an entrepreneur, you’re solely responsible for your business, so your ability to value your time and make every minute count will have a major impact on how successful you’ll be.
Fail to make this important shift in the way you spend your time, and you’ll always struggle to get to where you want to be.
Thankfully, it’s not all that difficult to break that cycle and transition your way of thinking from that of an employee to a boss. It starts with preparing yourself for the realities of being an entrepreneur.
This means you need to:
Set Realistic Goals. You must be honest about what you’re capable of getting done on any given day. Then you need to determine how many hours you’re willing to invest in your business and then assign those hours to specific projects.
Break tasks down into smaller, focused projects. Tim Ferris, author of “The 4-Hour Work Week”, refers to this as “chunking”. We’ll talk more about the importance of this in a bit because it’s a great way to boost your productivity and get more done in less time.
Cut out Distractions. Your work environment will change drastically from what you may be used to as an employee, and you need to optimize your workspace so that it’s supporting a focused, productive workflow.
Identify the Truth Behind Procrastination. This is one of the hardest things to acknowledge at times, especially if you’ve gotten into the habit of procrastinating for reasons you aren’t aware of.
We’ll talk more about this in an upcoming chapter because it deserves a section of its own. It’s that important.
Be Ruthless in Prioritizing. Does your email really need to stay open while you work so that all those notifications cause you to continuously check your inbox?
Now let’s take a closer look at how you can learn the chunking technique, which will immediately boost your daily output and keep you focused on meeting your goals.
Time Chunking 101

For years, I would fire up the laptop and start my day doing several different things at once. I’d check email, then maybe do some writing, then head over to social media, and then back to email yet again.
Chunking is where you decide to focus on just one major task at a time (or even per day). Depending on the type of business you’re involved in, this might include one day exclusively focused on graphic design, then one day dedicated to marketing.
Consider creating a detailed task list of all the important aspects of your business; the things that keep it all afloat and absolutely require your time.
This can be tricky because we tend to things all things are important, but the reality is, they’re not.
When it comes to any business, there are a handful of critical tasks that need to be taken care of daily, and the rest just adds a little more gas to the tank. They can be done later once the main tasks are out of the way.
You need to learn to place a value on every ounce of “fuel” you have left. That’s where chunking comes into play.
Don’t be tempted to multi-task because this is a productivity killer! So many people make a big deal of being able to multi-task, but all you end up with are a number of tasks that are partly done and an increasing amount of frustration because you never seem to be able to clear things off your to-do-list; sticking to one task at a time is much more productive, believe me!
And remember, one way to stay productive is to be focused and many people struggle with this. If you want to learn more about staying focused, check out the featured resource below for a free report; download, read it and take action 😊
Top Seven Questions To Ask When Planning For Success
Top Seven Questions To Ask When Planning For Success

The road to success is fraught with many obstacles and isn’t for the faint hearted! When you want to plan to succeed, sometimes the most important thing to do is to really know yourself inside and out.
- What am I passionate about?
If you don’t know what you are passionate about, then you need to stop right now and figure that out because this is a critical key to success. If you spend your life working toward something that doesn’t spark your passion, then you are going to have a hard time motivating yourself to succeed.
- Where am I right now?
Be honest with yourself when answering this question. Evaluate where you are in life and how close you feel to achieving your goal. Don’t use it as a way to get down on yourself. Simply figure out where you are and how far you have to go before you are where you want to be. Consider the resources you have and what you need to acquire and then consider what that knowledge might mean and how it can help you to be successful.
- Where do I begin?
It’s hard to get started without knowing where you’re going to begin. To establish the point where you are starting, take the knowledge you’ve learned from asking yourself the first two questions and consider the most logical point to begin. Evaluate your goals and dissect them from the top to the bottom, until you find yourself able to answer this question.
- What is my end game?
If you don’t know where you want to end up, you might never figure out where to start. Think carefully about where you want to end up and what your end game looks like. Use visualization techniques to help you pave the way to success.
- What can’t I do by myself?
Every goal starts out huge, and there are ways that other people can help us to get to where we want to be. Whether it’s through offering resources or simply being there to provide moral support and accountability, there are ways others can help you and you should think about how.
- Why did I choose this goal?
Every goal is unique, especially when it comes to why the person setting the goal has chosen it. What are your personal motivations behind choosing this goal? What do you specifically hope to achieve by following this goal through to its fruition? Do you want to make the world a better place? Improve the lives of the elderly or disabled? Pinpointing this will help you to shape your mission statement and stay motivated!
- What are my obstacles?
Knowing your obstacles before you even begin is a great way to face your fears and consider ways to overcome the challenges that might get in the way of your success. Addressing these early on ensure that you have a plan to fall back on when the time comes, ensuring that you are able to overcome them and be successful!
Gaining The Confidence You Need To Succeed

A lot of people don’t realize just how important it is to have confidence before you ever begin to work on an important task. Achieving goals is often about what you’re made of. If you don’t believe in yourself and you lack the confidence that you need to get up after a setback, then it is likely that you are going to give up before you even make significant progress.
The first thing that you can do for yourself to begin gaining more confidence is to start thinking kinder thoughts. There is a phrase that says that we are each our own worst critic, and most of the time that is very true. When you find yourself overwhelmed by the perception you have of yourself as being not good enough or failure, then you have already sabotaged yourself before you begin working on anything.
Instead, start to keep track of the negative things that you say to yourself. Once you have a good idea of just what a big bully you are, begin interrupting those negative thoughts with positive affirmations. Think about all of the great things that you are capable of doing and the things that you have accomplished rather than dwelling on the negative events that plague your mind.
You can overcome the negativity bias. All you have to do is work hard to catch yourself when you’re having negative thoughts about yourself or your process or your progress and force yourself to think positively and acknowledge all of the hard work that you have done and will continue to do to achieve your goal.
Gaining confidence can be a lot harder if you are around other negative people, so try and make sure that you are doing everything that you can to surround yourself with positive people who believe that you can do anything that you set your mind to. Toxic people will try to bring you down and doubt yourself, but there is no law saying that you have to believe them.
Instead of spending time with people who drain you, instead, meet these outside sources of negativity with a good sense of humor. Do not let them bring you down. Allow the comments to roll off of you like water and instead of focusing on the negative, focus on the good.
Developing your sense of humor and focusing on things that you should be thankful for is a great way to stop taking stock in negative thoughts altogether and start focusing on the things that truly matter.
Remembering this can up your motivation and help you stay confident because you are remembering that you were given a great opportunity and you can make of it what you will. The power truly is in your hands. So use it for the best starting now!
Paving The Way Toward Success By Changing Your Lifestyle

The sad fact of the matter is that when you want to succeed, there are often a lot of changes that you need to make before that success is able to become a reality. Fortunately, there are many things that you can do, starting now, to prime yourself for success and begin to pave the way to a successful lifestyle!
To get on the right path, you need to begin with the fundamentals. Without tending to the basics, you are ultimately going to be overwhelmed and consumed by the tremendous amount of work it takes to become successful at any given task.
To begin with, when we aren’t taking care of ourselves fundamentally, we are not giving our bodies the physical resources that they need to succeed. Getting enough sleep at night, making sure to eat a nourishing breakfast, and exercising daily are some of the most fundamental and important ways that we can prime ourselves for success.
Add to that making sure that you are eating healthy foods that are not processed and avoiding sugar, and you will be shocked by just how well you find yourself able to focus!
But that is just the beginning. Making changes in your life to prime yourself for success also has to do with your mind as well. Instead of spending time watching television or drowning your life in social media, replace those things with tools that will help to jump start you on the path to success, such as reading or listening to inspirational radio shows or podcasts by people who are living the dream!
Focus on books and shows that you know are going to give you information that pertains to your goal specifically, and motivational speakers and writers who will help you to get in touch with yourself and your inspiration. Listen to these sorts of speakers or read motivational books and articles at least once per day in order to really take advantage of their full affect. It’s transformative!
Another important lifestyle change to make is to surround yourself with people who are actually working toward their dreams rather than complaining about how unfair the world is for leaving them behind.
There are many different lifestyle changes that you can make to prime yourself for success, some of them obvious and some of them less so. If you are dedicated to planning a life of achievement for yourself, and willing to make the changes necessary to succeed, then there is no way you will fail at making your dreams a reality!

Building A Strong Success Mindset Pt 4
Building A Strong Success Mindset Pt 4

In the first post in this success mindset for entrepreneurs series, you learnt about the importance of believing in yourself and you can find that post here
And, in the second post you learnt about testing your ideas to ensure that they are worthy, and that post is here
And in the third post you learnt about learning from your mistakes, and that post is here
In this final part of the series, we will look at focusing on your customers and building a team around you to help you to have the success you desire.
Focus On Your Customers

The customer is always right. That’s a truism of customer service, but it’s just as important when planning for success.
In the last chapter, you learned that one of the main reasons start-ups fail is because they fail to focus on the customer. But you’re not going to make that mistake!
Why You Should Focus On What Customers Want/Need
Your customers are the life’s blood of your business. If they’re not happy, your business will fail. It’s that simple.
It doesn’t matter what critics of your company and products say. If your customers are happy and satisfied, you’ll make money.
Think about James Carville’s famous sign during Bill Clinton’s presidential campaign. It read, “It’s the economy, stupid.” It was a reminder that the campaign’s voters – its customers – were worried about the economy. Keeping their focus on the community helped make the campaign a winning one.
Creating A Great Start-To-Finish Experience
A customer’s experience with you starts when they first learn about your company or product and continues for as long as they use your product.
Customers who’ve received top-notch support remember it. They’ll mention it to their friends.
Tip: Use Perkzilla to grow your audience. It’s a unique rewards platform you can leverage to grow your audience, get more social love, and increase your sales.
Providing Value
What’s the secret to attracting customers? VALUE.
Before anybody spends their money on your product, they’re going to want to know that it’ll deliver on its promises. You can make them feel better about that by offering clear value to them even before they buy.
Delivering value triggers a mental glitch called Reciprocity. When you give customer something for free – even if it’s information – they’re more likely to feel obligated to buy from you.
Of course, value must come from your product as well. It includes the quality of the product, its usefulness, its longevity, and its price.
Becoming An Authority
People look up to authority figures. You can prove your authority by doing what we just talked about – delivering value to your customers.
But authority is more than that. It’s about showing that you’re a reliable and knowledgeable source of information. On social media, it means delivering original content that’s informative and actionable. It may also mean curating content from industry publications and authorities and sharing it with your own take on the topic.
Tip: Use PLR (Private Label Rights) to get high-quality lead magnets you can repurpose to attract your target audience, grow your list, and generate leads.
For coaching PLR go to Coach Glue
For Marketing Video PLR go to Video PLR Licencing
For Personal Development PLR go to Tools For Motivation
Customer Support
Customer support starts when a customer first visits your website. You should think about what kind of support your customers need and how you’ll deliver it.
In the old days, support was mostly in person or on the phone. Today, you may want to think about:
- Email support
- Chat support
- Chatbots
- Self-service options
- FAQ
- Social media support
You’ll need to test various options to figure out what’ll work for your audience. Remember that a lot of companies are merging social media with support and consider doing the same.
Next, we’ll talk about the fifth and final step to success: building your success team!
Building Your Success Team

If you want to be successful, you can’t go it alone. There’s a temptation to do that, of course. Wearing every possible hat might save you a little money. But in the end, it’ll cost you more in time (and sanity) than the alternative.
Why You Shouldn’t Try To Do Everything
You might have a lot of skills. Perhaps you’re a great innovator with excellent communication skills. Maybe you’ve dabbled in accounting and flirted with marketing.
No matter how good you are, you’re not equally good at everything. If you try to do the things you’re not so great at, you might wind up settling for a less-than-perfect result.
Not only will you be able to do a better job at the things that ONLY you can do, you’ll also be able to live a balanced and productive life – and that’s part of success.
Tips For Building A Team
The idea of building a team can be an intimidating one, particularly if you’re thinking that you need to hire people and deal with taxes and insurance.
The good news is that you don’t need to do those things unless you want to. Lots of companies outsource tasks as needed without hiring full-time or even part-time people.
You may decide to hire someone full time. Keep in mind, though, that there are plenty of tasks you can outsource to freelancers. Using sites like Upwork makes it easy to find virtual assistants and team members.
The Importance Of Delegation
How do you know what to do yourself and what to delegate? Delegation is an essential skill. You know you can’t do everything, but it can be difficult to let go of the things you’re accustomed to doing even when you have help.
Here are some questions to help you learn how to delegate. About each task, ask:
- Can I teach someone else to do it?
- Is there anything that I’m unable to teach?
- Is my personal input required?
- Do I have someone on my team who’s capable of learning how to do it?
Unless the task absolutely requires your input and skills, it should be open to delegation. Yes, you’ll need to spend some time training your staff or freelancers to do the task to your standards. You’ll probably end up fielding a few questions and possibly, correcting a few mistakes.
It can also be helpful to take an inventory of your team’s skills. They might have abilities you don’t know about yet!

Building A Strong Success Mindset Pt 3
Building A Strong Success Mindset Pt 3

In the first post in this series, you learnt about the importance of believing in yourself and you can find that post here
And, in the second post you learnt about testing your ideas to ensure that they are worthy, and that post is here
Next, we will look at the importance of learning from your mistakes. This is a key skill to master because mistakes can quickly paralyse you and stop any momentum you had going.
What’s Your Inner Critic Saying About You?

The key to success is taking that annoying, critical voice in your head and turning it into something positive. That might seem impossible, but I promise – you can do it. It all starts with listening to that little voice.
You see, a lot of times you might simply dismiss it – or let it stop you without really listening to it.
It might even tell you that you’re stupid. Write it down. Don’t read it over again. Just record it and put it away. You’ll probably think about it during the day but try not to dwell on it.
Understanding Your Inner Critic
Are you ready to get to the heart of what your inner critic is trying to tell you?
Pull out that notebook from yesterday and read over what you wrote. Think about how you felt and what immediately came to mind.
I’m willing to bet it’s negative. Maybe even hurtful.
Ultimately, it’s trying to protect you – even though it might not seem like it a lot of the time.
Your job today is to look at what that voice says and figure out what it really MEANS.
For example, if your inner critic tells you that you shouldn’t try to start a business because you’ll fail, there are two ways to look at it:
- Your inner critic has no faith in your ability or skills, and wants you to give up;
or –
- Your inner critic is really consumed with the fear of failure and wants to protect you.
Which of those two do you think is the most likely? I’ll save you the suspense. It’s the second one.
How are these thoughts and feelings impacting your business? And more importantly, how can you mute that critic so you can focus on your strengths and what you bring to the table?
Learning From Your Mistakes

Every cloud has a silver lining – and so does every mistake. It’s a bit cliché to say that mistakes are learning opportunities, but the fact that it’s a common saying doesn’t make it untrue.
Just like failure, mistakes show us who we are. We all make them. It’s what you do with them that marks the difference between success and failure.
Why Start-Ups Fail
It’s not easy to get a start-up off the ground. When start-ups fail, it can be for any one of several reasons. Here are some of the most common:
- Not focusing on customers and solving their problems
- Lack of focus
- Scaling too quickly
- Not building a success team
We’ve already talked about focusing on customers. If you do that, you’ll be halfway to success because you won’t be thinking about yourself, you’ll be thinking about your audience.
Scaling is something that can send any entrepreneur into a tailspin. Allow your business to grow organically and scale only when you’re ready.
We’ll talk about how to build a success team later – but suffice to say, you can’t do everything yourself!
Reframing Mistakes as Opportunities
Nobody likes making mistakes. It’s no fun to be wrong. But every successful entrepreneur needs to get comfortable with it – and learn to see mistakes as opportunities.
What happens when you mess up? If you pay attention, you can learn something! Everything you learn now will help you with your next goal.
When you make a mistake, take a deep breath and ask:
What can I learn from this?
Then, once you’ve identified it, use the lesson to create your next opportunity. Once you get in the habit of doing it, it’ll be easy.
Tightening Goals
We already talked about SMART goals. When you don’t achieve a goal, it’s easy to feel disheartened. Often, it’s just a sign that your goal was too big.
When you set goals for yourself, take every long-term goal and break it down into the smallest possible steps. Focus on what you want and narrow your goals to help you achieve it. You’ll be far more likely to get where you want to go if you have tight, achievable goals.
How To Find The Lessons In Experiences
Everything you experience is a lesson. When you make a mistake or fail, it’s natural to be upset.
Take time to be upset. But then, step back. Ask what you did wrong, and what you would do differently next time.
If you lack information, go find it. Read, study, talk to other people in your industry – and then take what you’ve learned to heart and use it in the future.
Split Testing
One of the best ways to refine your goals and fine-tune your products is with split testing. Split testing involves taking content or an ad campaign and testing different versions until you get the best results.
Tip: Use Genius Lander to tap into the powerful A.S.P.A formula to turn your landing pages into lead-generating powerhouses.
Creating Your Plan B
It’s always a good idea to have a Plan B. If your first idea doesn’t work, what will you try next?
There’s no shame in having a back-up plan. In fact, part of the reason that successful people become successful is that they have a back-up plan!
Coming up next, we’ll talk about how to keep focused on your customers, so you don’t get off track, so until next time…
